Cinema for me is…
Pau in 11 frames
1. What film made you fall in love with cinema?
Two days, one night (BE, 2014) by Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne. After watching it, I was sure that I wanted to study cinema.
2. What are the 3 best European films you have seen in the last year?
Il pianeta azzurro (Franco Piavoli,IT, 1982)
Victoria (Sebastian Schipper, DE, 2015)
Les enfants d’Isadora (Damien Manivel, FR, 2019).
3. What does Europe mean to you?
A set of diversities trying to coexist, a wide range of voices that talk over each other.
4. In 2024, I think it is important to vote in the European elections because:
We have to vote to preserve our liberties and to prevent intolerance from continuing growing.
5. What do you like the most about your country that makes it unique?
It has to be the warmth, not only in the weather but also in the people. And the food, of course. We also have Rosalía and Sílvia Pérez Cruz…
6. Your favorite film theatre? What do you like about it?
Cinemes Girona, because my first documentary Heels Over Wheels premiered there and they embrace all kinds of movies.
7. What is your dream job in the film industry?
I would like to keep portraying the real stories of the people that surround me by writing and directing them.
8. Which film director would you like to be?
Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank, Cow, …) or Elena Martín (Julia ist, Creatura), because they both make the kind of cinema I believe in.
9. Which film character do you most identify with?
Elizabeth Berkley’s character in Showgirls (Paul Verhoeven, US, 1995) must have the same enneagram and horoscope as me (Social Three and Capricorn sun Pisces rising).
10. Your favorite soundtrack or song?
I’ve Seen It All by Björk in Dancer In The Dark (Lars Von Trier, DK, 2000). The whole soundtrack that Björk created for that movie (and her whole discography) makes her, in my opinion, the most exciting artist of our times.
11. If you had to live in a movie, which one would you like it to be?
Lux Aeterna (FR, 2019) by Gaspar Noé, because that chaotic energy full of flashing lights and psychotic outbreaks makes me feel alive.
Pau Canivell is the Ambassador of Renoir. Find out more about the cinema here.
