One of the most popular art cinemas in Bucharest, Peasant Museum Cinema is a landmark cinema for both cinephiles and casual viewers. A member of the Europa Cinemas Network, the cinema puts a lot of emphasis on European and auteur films, titles from around the world that have premiered at the most famous festivals, but also on organising large-scale events in collaboration with other European cinemas or organisations such as C.I.C.A.E. (Arthouse Cinema Day, European Cinema Night, etc.).
The Peasant Museum Cinema is located inside the National Peasant Museum. It is a very special, very green place in the city centre. For more than 30 years the Communists had control of this place. But in the 1990s, the Romanian painter Horia Bernea and his team transformed the site into what it was originally: the Romanian Peasant Museum.
The Peasant Cinema Museum sheds light on Romanian cinema, organising discussions and Q&A sessions with the cast and crew of the films. The cinema also hosts numerous local festivals, being a pillar for Romanian art cinemas.
During the summer, the Peasant Museum Cinema also organises open-air screenings and fun events such as dog screenings.
Thanks to its location, vintage look, and a balanced variety of films from all over the world, the Peasant Museum Cinema is a must-see for Bucharest cinephiles. The cinema has become a sanctuary for beautiful films, thoughtful talks, and popular festivals.
