1. What film made you fall in love with cinema?
This is extremely difficult for me to answer because there is no singular film that made realise that cinema is it for me. Though, the first director I fell in love with was Xavier Dolan.
2. What are the 3 best European films you have seen in the last year?
In no particular order:
Neha (Martin Šulík, 1991)
Une fleur à la bouche (Eric Baudelaire, 2022)
Verdens verste menneske (Joachim Trier, 2021).
3. What does Europe mean to you?
A beautiful, culturally, historically diverse place that still has the ability to grow, expand (metaphorically speaking, not literally) and learn to overlook its biases by opening its arms to new people, throw itself in the unknown and unusual.
4. What do you like the most about your country that makes it unique?
Everyone is somehow connected to each other. It is completely mad. We also make the best bread in the world (unofficial information).
5. Your favorite film theatre? What do you like about it?
I have two. One in Riga and one in Paris. In Riga it is Kino Bize, small, simply feels like a dream of any cinema lover on this earth. In Paris it is Le Champo, a biased opinion since François Truffaut liked it.
6. What is your dream job in the film industry?
I would love to be a screenwriter and a director. I simply want to be the person that is mostly in charge of the execution of my ideas.
7. Which film director would you like to be?
I would adore to be Agnès Varda. Or even Eric Baudelaire because he is a multi-media artist. Honestly, I would like to stay myself and be my own person, be a mix of all the directors I love so very dearly.
8. Which film character do you most identify with?
Filip from Amator (Krzysztof Kieślowski, 1979) because I too, recently bought my first Super 8 camera.
9. Your favorite soundtrack or song?
True Stories (David Byrne, 1986) soundtrack made by Talking Heads.
10. If you had to live in a movie, which one would you like it to be?
Wim Wenders’ Der Himmel über Berlin also known by its English name – Wings of Desire (1987). It is a stunning film in every single aspect. Then again, living in a picture like Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (1967) by Jacques Demy would be a dream too.
